I opted for Blu-ray experience, after the poor performance of the Toshiba player. More from the big electronics manufacturers are supporting Blu-ray over HD-DVD (like the movie studios). That alone is reason enough not to spend your hard-earned bucks on this first generation dud.

CONS: REMOTE CONTROL: Very poorly designed remote control! Impossible to read, labels on the keys in a dimly lit room with a flashlight (and a magnifying glass)! The buttons all look the same. The remote is too long, too heavy, not ergonomic, and it is made of metal, the cold feeling in your hand. Fan: The fan is loud. This unit is as loud as some desktop PCs! SLOW: Overall the player is very slow. . . When can stop, start, stop setup mode, ejecting or inserting a hard drive players up to one or two minutes! CONCLUSION: I'm back player BestBuy on Monday and I'll wait to buy a new Sony Blu-ray player BDP-S1, when it becomes available. SUGGESTION: Wait for the Sony Blu-ray player BDP-S1.

I returned players because of the frequent lock ups and other technical limitations. I saw what I wanted to see: a couple of nice pictures here and there, if the player has not almost 2 minutes to load the film. Some of the HD-DVD movies were not noticeably better than the DVD. I could not see to keep players if the format is doomed to die. I do not feel like making two different collections of films is also incompatible! I'm going with Blu Ray because Blu Ray is not only superior, Blu Ray has the support of 90% of the studios and nearly 100% of the studios will ensure plus 50GB Blu-Ray discs, the highest quality long movies like Lord of the Rings. Blu Ray has more bandwidth, much more memory (100 and 200 GB discs) are in a few years. There are other technical advantages in terms of available bandwidth for audio and video. In addition, the Blu-Ray players are coming an 2 0X come with further increases. HD-DVD is just too limited, and even defects that are not overcome in the future. HD-DVD is DOA! I call the "early adopters" self-control and support only one format. Blu Ray will win, and rightly so, it is the high quality format.

Going in I knew it was slow to load / Eject that the remote was difficult to handle, but I bought it anyway. Without a magnifying glass and a flashlight to read the remote control, you have to rely on memory for what does what key. . . They all look the same. I want to design the intellectual dwarf that it needs. The image quality was not much better than my Denon non-HD. Wait for something better.

Eventually after an hour on the phone to work with Toshiba. Viewed 2 HD-DVDs in the coming weeks, he always began errors that it could not read the disks. Download new firmware and now nothing is played. Send them back. This is a piece of junk! Note: Picture was fantastic when it works.
