I made the mistake of buying one of these for Christmas, only to have Toshiba and the rest of the industry declare the HD format dead weeks later.

What a waste of money for myself and the others who poured cash down the HD-DVD money drain. I should have known better than to spend my cash before the format war ended.

Toshiba has announced that they are getting out of the next generation DVD player business. Get a conventional DVD player or a Blu-Ray, not one of these dogs.

I got this HD DVD player from another store and it came with two free DVD’s. The player had trouble playing one of the DVD’s that it came with- freeze framing and distorting image and sound. I contacted Toshiba and they said it was a software problem and sent out a DVD with updated software to upload new programing into the unit. I did it and it still did not function correctly- same problem. I returned it to the store. Maybe I just got a defective unit but it seemed to respond to all the commands slowly. I am hoping to have better luck with another Toshiba model…

The seller sent an e-mail that he mailed the HDMI Cable but it has not shown up yet. The player works fine.

I like this unit very much, It also Upconverts DVD. It’s a shame they discontinued HD DVD, because they have great clarity and good performance.

I own this HD DVD player and a Playstation 3, which I use to play Blue Ray movies and seriously, I can’t tell the difference.
